Dentures and partial dentures may be necessary if you are missing some, or all of your natural teeth. Having your teeth replaced will greatly restore your smiles appearance. More than 33 million Americans have lost all their upper or lower teeth.

Tooth loss may result from periodontal disease, tooth decay, or injury. Losing your teeth can make you look older than you are and prevent you from eating and speaking properly. The good news is that you have several excellent choices for tooth replacement.

Replacing Teeth

Replacing missing teeth with dentures will benefit your appearance. Your health will benefit as well. Teeth provide support for the facial muscles, giving you a natural and youthful appearance. Most importantly, your teeth allow you to eat and speak normally. These are abilities that people often take for granted.

Many people wear false teeth, but, you wouldn’t necessarily realize that when you see them. This is owed to the artistry and skill of dentists and laboratory technicians.

Types of Dentures

There are several different types of false teeth. The most affordable option is removable dentures. These removable types can be designed as full dentures, over-dentures, and partial dentures. If you have lost all of your teeth, full dentures are the least expensive way to replace them.

Conventional, removable dentures, are placed in the patient’s mouth only after all the teeth have been extracted and the gum tissue has healed. Depending on the patient, this process can take several months.

Immediate dentures are placed in the mouth the same day that the teeth are extracted. The advantage to an immediate type is that the patient does not have to be without teeth during the healing period. There are even false teeth that are held in place, not with adhesives, but, with dental implants.

Implanted false teeth simply snap into place. This provides a low-maintenance solution for denture wearers who don’t want to bother with adhesives.

If you only need a few teeth replaced, it may be possible to fill the space with a removable partial denture. This type of false teeth fill out your smile with replacement teeth that are attached to a pink gum colored base. Regardless of which type of false teeth you have done, they provide a sensible solution for your tooth replacement.
